In this Old Testament Book of the Bible, the obviously emerging information is that God uses common men and women to conquer unobtainable situations to achieve His favorable desires. After reading the Book of Ezra Chapter 6, one can read the complete Book of Esther and then continue on to Ezra Chapter 7 for the chronological sequence of events. This true story takes place in Persia for a period of ten years from 483 to 473 B.C. The first four chapters tell of the threat to the Jews. While the last 6 chapters (5-10) contain the great deliverance and triumph of the Jews. This thrilling story has all the attributes of a great novel. The story of Esther ( a beautiful young orphan girl) begins in King Ahasuerus' winter palace at Susa. He holds a lavish banquet to display his royal glory to the people of Susa and sought to make Queen Vashti's beauty part of the program. She refused to appear at the banquet, thus the King ordered to have her deposed and then he sought out another queen, to keep other women from becoming out of hand. Esther who hides a secret about her true identity then became queen, because she had found favor in his sight and the Lord used Esther and her family (mainly Mordecai) to triumph over Israel's enemies who were plotting to destroy them. This story involves a power struggle, romantic love and much more. God delivers the Jewish people in a victorious way.
